I am looking at the Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster Mdl 6469 or the Millett 4-16x50 Tactical 30mm Riflescope  Stock # - BK81008.  Both are comparable in price. But I am curious as to which would be the better scope, in regards to the light gathering ability, toughness, and ability to retain zero. I have had a previous millett scope and was very happy with its lowlight capabilities and ability to hold zero. What I wasn't happy with was the toughness. (side focus quit working) so is the Nikon the better buy?

Whatever I choose will be going on a PSL-54C with a side mounted rail using Super Sniper rings.  I am going to be shooting 7.62x54r 203 gr SP round.  The ranges I am looking at using it in are going to be in the 100-300 yard range.

I know there are much more expensive scopes that are better, but currently I have a budget to work with and these scopes fit within that budget. Any comments and help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I vote the Nikon, they are made in the Phillipenes, Millet is made in China, I just don't trust China scopes.

Owned one of those, but used both. Plus 3 on the Nikon.
I felt the Millet was too much flash and too little bang.

Millet has a LARGE focus knob, marginal glass, and a underwhelming, mostly unusable, lit reticle.
They are well built and have a pretty good CS dept, according to most.

The Nikon BM is a nice functioning, fairly light weight scope that will serve you well....for the $$$ IMO

I was looking through a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5X14 just the other day at a store....Stare

Well, I was inside a store looking across the store at the Ladies Coats......whatever.....anyway....everything looks like it's magnifying in a store.....but I was impressed.....I did see a little halo of aberration around the circumference but who cares??  The scope seemed NICE!!

Just remember at this price point, don't expect to much, these are are alot of bells and whistles to ask for without some comprimize.

I have decided on the Nikon, I had a chance to look through one on the range the other day even though it wasn't the reticle I wanted.  Very clear and liked the controls better than the Millett.

Thanks for all the comments and help. I did look through a leupold, but it was way outside my current price range. Really nice scope, but not too many come with mildots. The future might be one of the mildot leupolds going on one of my more expensive guns.
