I RECENTLY BOUGHT A BROWNING 7MM A-BOLT MEDALION WITH THE BOSS SYSTEM. I HAVE SEVERAL RIFLES SET UP TO SHOOT AT RANGES FROM 100 -200 YDS. I'D LIKE TO SET THIS GUN UP TO SHOOT BETWEEN 200 AND 300 YDS. I'D LIKE A GOOD SCOPE FOR THE MONEY, BUT NEED TO KEEP IT UNDER $400. I'VE ALSO FOUND THE OLDER I GET THE MORE I PREFER A 50MM LENSE TO A 40MM. SO I GUESS I'M LOOKING FOR A CHEAP SCOPE THAT CAN HANDLE THE RECOIL, GIVE ME 12 OR 14 MAGNIFICATION, AND BE GOOD IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS

If you can live with 10 power, the 50mm Weaver Grand Slam is the one you want given your budget.  It is sharper and brighter than my Vari-X-III 4.5x14x50mm Leupolds.  I compared them side by side on an actual deer hunt.  At about 45 minutes after sunset, I could count points with the Weaver when I could just barely make out the buck with the Leupold.  I am not kidding, they are that good.

I also compared the Weaver Grand Slam to the Leupolds and I was sold from that point on.  They offer one heck of a scope at a fair price.  Most of the Grand Slams are in 40MM objectives.  Personally, I dont like 50MM on a gun that is going to be carried in the field.  With todays modern coatings and high quality glass the differences in light gathering are not that substantial atleast not to warrant the extra weight and the problem of having to mount the scope higher.  You will pay more for the 50 MM objective and really if you look on the store here they are not as common as the 40- 44 mm objectives.

For your magnification and price range I'd check out:

* Burris Fullfield 4.5-14x42  ---$339.95

*  Burris Signature 4-16x44 ---$429.95  - Definitly a step up above the Fullfield

* Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50 ---$349.95 or Buckmaster 4.5-14x40-  279.95

* Nikon Monarch--4x12x40 -- $369.95 (step up from Buckmaster)

* Pentax Whitetails Unlimited  4.5-14x42  $448.95

* Weaver Grandslam 4.5-14x40 -- $324.95

*Bushnell 4200 Elite - 4-16x40 -- $418.95

Ok crunch time.  If I had a budget of $400, I'd skip lunch one day and by the Bushnell 4200 Elite.  It is better than any of the others listed optically even better than the Pentax which costs more. (And I love the Pentax I have the Whitails Unlimited on my .308..still like the 4200 much better) It may be as toss up between the Burris Signature and the Bushnell 4200...I just like the Bushnell. If I wanted to save some money I'd go with the Weaver Grandslam I personally think it is brighter then the Nikon Monarch and costs a little less.  Still wanted to save some cash, well after looking at new this years model of the Nikon Buckmaster I'd give it the edge over the Burris Fullfield.

Recap:  I think the Bushnell 4200 rocks!!! I like it almost as much as my Zeiss Conquest.  But for all out best buy the Weaver Grandslam is the way to go.

Just my 2 cents
