Somebody is trying to trade a S&W model 2 32Cal pistol for his motorcycle.  The guy claims it appraised for $1050 2 years ago but I'm skeptical.  Anybody have any idea what a Model 2 made in 1905 is worth?

He states:  a S&W .32 from 1905. It was appraised at 1050 a few years ago in great firing condition.

I started doing a little research and there is not way the gun pictured is a model 2.  It appears to be a model 1905 (is there a version 2 of a 1905 maybe?)

Seems like a red flag right off the bat. I'd be skeptical to be sure. Good luck Bud.

You may want to join the S&W forum and post your question there.  Doubt this is the S&W Model 1905.  Thought they were 38 Special but there may have been some in 32 Long..etc.  Might be a 1903, which was chambered in 32 Long, 32-20, 32 WCF.

Average prices seem to run around $200-300 on the auction sites.

Looks like a late model 32. The earlier models had the S&W Medallion on the grip. If you had one in mint condition it might bring 500+/- this one I would say 300.00 or less. As a collector piece its kinda weak and the cal. really doesn't help either way.

Ding - we have a winner.  As far as I am concerned anything chambered in .32 is worthless. Will it have collectable value to someone - sure but its not like your holding a Win model 21 shotgun which probably cost about the same at that time.  Someone can appraise an object based on recently sold comparable items that are same or similar. By the way I earned a professional designation as a "Master Senior Appraiser" now having said that any appraisal is an educated guess regarding the value and under no circumstance would I pay as much for something as I  would appraise it for.  Watch an episode of Pawn Stars they have an expert come in and guess what it will sell for then the guy trying to unload the item thinks he can get the whole thing, but reality is the shop will have to carry the item in stock until a "Greater Fool" comes along and pays them more than they paid for it.  Now any pistol that works reliably is probably worth $300. on todays market, but who in their right mind wants a .32 that they have to pay a premium for. I said a guy was trying to trade it for my sons motorcycle not that I was thinking of buying it!

I knew the guy was blowing smoke as soon as I saw the picture.

I already have (3) 9mms so why would I want a 32???

But you guys definitely re-enforced what I was already thinking, so thanks! Howdy
