Ok, this is sort of an odd post.  Here are the specs on a little project of mine.

Savage 110 long action
Shilen 24" match grade heavy sporter barrel in 280 Rem.
Stockade hunting sporter stock
Timney trigger

Now I dont really know what I intend to use this for right now, but I have always wanted to try out the 280 Rem.  My question is what would YOU scope this rifle with and what would YOUR use for it be.  Catch is price limit is $500.  Have fun!

For $500 or less, I`d scope it with either the 4x16 Elite 4200 or the same variable in the Nikon Monarch!.......4x on the low end is good enough for deer and larger game, while the higher powers offer enough magnification for the varmits.........4x16 offers a well rounded yet versatile variable range for your flat shooting 280 & would not be overwhelming on your rifle!..............That should cover anything you wish to do from varmits to big game!!

I'd pick a 3-12 or 4-16 in 40 or 50.   Go to a store that will let you take it outside at dusk and see which one you like best.

BTW.... why are you picking a Savage 110 if you are customizing?

Excellent choice of rifle! Very nice stock, trigger, and barrel also, should be a shooter. Easy to do a lot of your own work also, just built one with same parts except a LW barrel.. I would pick the 3.5x10x44 conquest as a good all purpose scope that will allow longer shots but not saddle you with AO to complicate things. If AO doesn't bother and you want to go higher I would recommend the 4x16 elite as Squeeze has. Enjoy your 280 and get her shootin' bug holes....

Hello, Chavist93.   Since this is just a "fun" question, I would squeeze my wallet just a tiny bit more and get an IOR 2.5X10X42.           Smile

I would use a Picatinney rail so I could change scopes easily, I fact I did with a 30-06 on a trued savage long action.

Try this one out for size.  Great optics, low profile and side focus.

Why when he is willing to invest $500 in the scope? He could do much better than any simmons if he is willing to spend that much. Not against the simmons if he was on an extremely tight budget but even half his budget will get a MUCH better scope with better optics.

Bushy Conquest or Monarch all pretty close and within budget depending on model, and your final decision for application and range.
