I almost sent in an order for the Carson xm 10x50s today. But I did some more looking around and found a great deal on the Bausch&Lomb discoverers in the same range.

The B&Ls are $179.The website for the Carsons says.$184.But a phone call to them and the rep says $269.

I'm curious now, which would be the best Bino for the $. If the Carsons are the answer,do you still think they would be the best deal for the higher price.

   Thanks again for everybodies help.

As I often post, I haven't looked through the Carson but I almost ordered them yesterday. I could only find one place on the web and the price on the model I was looking at was in the same range as the higher of the two you posted.

From a hunting perspective I would probably opt for the Carsons simply because they are of the roof prism design and therefore tend to be more compact overall. The Bausch and Lomb have superb optical quality for the price. From what I have read they typically sold in the $350 range before they went on clearance. A $350 porro should provide superior optical quality but then hunting optics aren't always about just the optical quality of the bin in question.

I had both.  Sold the Carsons to a friend (not because I was unhappy with them he just need some good bino's) still plan on picking up another pair.  I bought the Bausch & Lomb on a recommendation of a fellow forum member for my father in law for Christmas.  He had always had poor quality binoculars and the Bausch & Lomb were on closeout from Cabelas.

Both the Carson and the Bausch & Lomb Discoverers are great binoculars.  Optics wise I would say they are close, very close.  I didnt get a chance to do a side by side comparision but I did compare the B&L to my Swift Audubon ED and it was pretty close.  I gave a slight edge to the Swifts in low light performance and that may also be that they have a slight increase in magification from 8.5x with a 44 lens size compared to the B&L 8x 42mm.

As far as duarablitly I may give the edge to the Carsons since a roof prism feels more durable.  But then again I have never broken a pair or poro prisms either.  Some people are turned off by the fact that the Carsons are assmbled in China using quality Japanese glass.  My guess is that is how they keep cost down to get a product that has great glass and competes with higher priced binoculars.  Again, every pair I have seen there was no quality control issues everyone was very good.

It comes down to personal preference.  I was very impressed with both pairs of binoculars.  If it was me personally Id jump at the B&L not because I think it is vastly superior BUT once Cabelas sells them they are gone.  B&L made a great product so I'd snatch up a pair before they are gone.

Well, after hours of research, reading testimonials, reviews, and browsing a few other sights for info on the CarsonXM & the B&L discoverers. Plus a phone call to Carsons headquarters.Where they told me that the binos have an unconditional lifetime warranty. They will replace any defective or damaged binos for free.Actually $12 for damaged binos for s&h.The same day they recieve them They said they will send out a new pair.

It was a really tough call between the 2.But I was able to find a lot more input on the Carsons.Plus got them for $184.+$11 for s&h.

I dont think I put that much research into buying my cars.

Thanks to everybody for their input and links to other sites.I really appreciate it.

Let us all know what you think when you get them in.  I think you will be very pleased with how they perform and shocked that they perform that good for the price.

Funny you mentioned the car thing.  About 6 months ago I needed a new truck, after hours and hours in front of this computer reading every review, complaint, test drives ect...I had more information and knew more about the three brands of trucks I was looking  then some of the sales staff at the dealerships.
