I got Leupold rings to mount my scope onto my Sako 75.  What torque should I tighten the screws to?  The ones holding the rings to the rifle I mean, not the ones for the ring halves.  Danke.

AL ring screws 10-15
Stl ring screws 15-20

That's the wrench I have (the adapter issue is pretty annoying but tolerable), I didn't know if those values were for the Leupold Sako mount or not, thanks for the clarification.

JohnRov,  Are you using the Ringmounts or the new style base adaptors for the QR rings? I had the Ringmounts on a 375 and 300 Weatherby and both slipped even torqued higher than normal. The Ringmounts work OK on light kickers but if you have anything stouter than a 270 Winchester I'd upgrade to Optilocks....................DJ

I have the ringmounts and am going to put them on a .308.  Got them based on recommendations here.

I have some questions.

1. whats  "AL ring screws"  AND "Stl ring screws"

2. is the Wheeler wrench what most of you use? do any of you use a different wrench or recommend a different one? does SWFA sell them?

3. do any of you - not use a Torque wrench?

4. is there a listing somewhere of how tight you should tighten most rings & bases?

I have 5 scopes I need to mount, I have purchased alignment bars and a lapping bar, now I am about ready to start mounting.

thanks in advance -js

1. aluminum vs. steel ring screws

2. The Wheeler wrench is relatively new, it is adjustable for torque and has interchangeable heads.  It's not perfect because the adapter can slip off but for what it does, it's pretty cheap ($50) and comes with a small assortment of bits.

3. There are, I'll let them answer.

4. The back of the Wheeler wrech package has the values posted above, don't know if manufacturers make their recommendations available or not.
