TRIED to sight in my friends tried and true .270 FWT yesterday.  Remington 150gr rnd nose factory ammo.  First 5shts,ALL OVER the target(I thought because of a clean bbl).  #6,MISFIRE!  #7 found it's own spot on the target.  #8,MISFIRE!  #9 ran away from #7.  Stripped the bolt, flushed with carb cleaner, regreased lugs and cocking cam,and reassembled.  Tried a misfire rnd. NO GOOD! So I brought out my Win Super-X 130gr factory ammo.  4 shots and we're done.
First time I've ever worked with a bad box of factory ammo. I'm figuring primer problems.  Had no hang fires but was waiting for one.  Also figure they were the reason for the non-grouping issue.(inconsistant ignition of powder).
Calling Rem tomorrow.  Anyone else having a problem?

I had a similar problem years ago, but it was old ammo that had been wet.  Box was dropped out of a boat, recovered and set aside until the next season.  I didn't shoot as many shots as you, but had very similar results...

This box was bought at Wal-Mart on his way up from Md!  Thing is I've got a box of the same type ammo my wife bought by mistake at our local ma and pa store. Chances are no problem but makes me wonder.

Every manufacturer can certainly make a mistake, but QC on ammo is pretty high.  I would definitely phone Remington and get some direct information.

Of course, it could just be that it is .270...

That's actually a special service provided by ammo manufacturers to get you to strip and clean the bolt once in a while. Smile

LOL!  In this case it really wasn't needed.  Just wanted to eliminate some variables.

never had that problem, but had a box of .243 ammo that seemed to be prone to case ruptures. Scared me, so that box got to go away.

 "UPDATE"

My friend got a reply from Remington yesterday.

First off, again the box a of ammo was bought at Wal-Mart. Turns out it was 18yrs old(no big deal).

The misfire problem, according to a letter from Remington, was "a worn shell holder that caused an .08" set back of the shoulder".  So the firing pin would push the cartridge forward not allowing enough force from the firing pin for ignition.  Anymore of a set back and maybe none would have fired.  They also said "QC should have picked that shellholder problem up".

Anyways, along with the letter of explaination, they sent 3 boxes of ammo.
