I'm new to this gun thing, I bought a 700 5r in 308 and a vortex viper pst 6-24x50, now I need to order some rings for it I'm thinking I'll get a 20 moa base so I don't know what size rings? Low med or high? Also any suggestions on rings? I've been told Burris zee sigs with the inserts to keep your scope perfect.

TPS base, TPS med rings, maybe even lows.

best to call SWFA and get their professional input on ring height.  1-972-SCOPE-IT.  They deal with this kinda thing on a daily basis and probably can take your exact setup and test which rings sit lowest.

Definately call SWFA to help select height.  Forget Burris and use either TPS or Talley or Badger Ordnance.  If I want to keep cost down I go with Talley lightweight one piece ringmounts and on tactical  rifles I use Badger Ordnance.  I will post a photo of an R5 with Badger plus 30moa and Badger Medium high rings with a 3-9x42 Super Sniper in the rings, I tend to switch scopes so I left a little room in case I want to go to a 50 or 56 mm objective at some point.

You will definitely want a 20 moa base with that scope.  It is on the lower end of needed adjustment for a long range .308 scope.  So that would rule out the Talley.  Badgers are just to much money when TPS is available.

This is a Vortex 6.5-20x50mm on EGA 20 MOA base and TPS super low rings.  I still have quite a bit of room.  EGW bases are higher than TPS.  I am thinking you will be just right with TPS 20 MOA base and TPS low rings.

But the idea of having no scratches/damage on scope would be nice with the sig zee rings

Those are good rings, nothing wrong with those.  Just not as heavy duty as the TPS.
