Thank you for the detailed explanation, Alan.
I suppose I could go for the 3-9x40mm model, since I think it will be more agile in the thick bush. I was also looking at the 3.5-10x44mm, but it's too expensive. I'll flip a coin to help me decide .

I bought a trijicon 3-9x40 mildot, as my general purpose hunting optic, for around 400 new. It looks like they have risen considerably in price since then. The constantly lit reticle makes nighttime pig hunting a bit easier, but the scope is not without its flaws. The actual mildot reticle is the sloppiest excuse for the reticle I have ever seen. The dots on the lower portion of the scope aren't even centered on the line, and the crosshair thickness is not the same between each post. Having said all that, it's still not a bad scope for the money. If anyone needs a reticle pic to show exactly what I am talking about, I should be able to get one up by tonight.
Bacon on the ground for inspiration.

6.5 X 47...not being antagonistic here, but you sure seem to bad mouth / criticize everything you post about. Is there anything you do like? Just wondering.

What's wrong with giving the bad with the good? Even my Hensoldt has some things I don't like (which I've tried to ID in past review). They are far outweighed by the things I DO like, doesn't make them any less present.

Is this referring to me or 6.5x47? BTW, I still haven't decided on the model of the Conquest. As I said, I'll flip a coin :D

Guys, taking reticle pictures with your iphone is harder than it looks. I can't seem to get the image to focus, but here is my best shot at a reticle pic from the trijicon. I will have to try with another camera when the wife gets home early next week.
Even in this awful picture you can see that the bottom post is thicker than the rest, and the dots aren't as visual as the other three posts. With a better image you will be able to see that the bottom post of mildots aren't lined up on center to the post. Sorry for the crap pics guys. I will work on my reticle shots.

I want to see this, too. A buddy of mine did some patent work for Premiere a few years ago. Looks like you're going to need a macro lens, though. You're going to need to be at eye relief point to take an accurate photo.

I have seen Accupoints with an odd bottom post a couple of times, but it is not very common.
The fiber that powers the dot is behind that bottom post and that is what makes it look different. ILya

OK, an update - I ordered the Minox ZA3 3-9x40 (German #4 reticle) today. I wanted to get the Zeiss, but it was too expensive to import. Meopta Meopro was also an option (I could have imported it for the Czech Republic) , but the Minox was the best deal. I was also looking at Vortex's Viper HS 2.5-10x44 but decided to take the Minox instead. I will report back, when it arrives.

Oh, one extra thing to mention, ILya, your review on the three scopes really (Zeiss, Meopta and Minox) helped. Keep 'em coming!

Trickster, everybody with a hole in their butt has an opinion and that's just the way the world is.The funny part probably is that they are all correct as far as their needs are. I own 3 Nikon Monarchs and 4 Monarch Golds which are the 30 mm models. The reason is a very good friend of mine is the Nikon rep where I live and I get the scopes at his sample price. Good luck in your choices. Peddler |

Peddler, I completely agree.
However, if you do not have the means to create your own opinion about a certain thing you have to, in a way, rely on the opinion of others. In the end it comes down to your own opinion. I tend to "go with the herd" - what the majority have - almost everyone in this tread recommended me the Conquest and means that it works for them and that there is a high chance that it will work for me. I'm the sort of person that has difficulty deciding, therefore I try to get help deciding. The thing that gets me is that in most cases it really does not matter what you pick. And then there's the circumstances I live in - if I want to go and check out the rifle scopes it's at least a 60 mile drive in one direction.
