New to this forum and would appreciate some suggestions.

I have a HK SL7 and want to buy a scope to compliment same.  I have narrowed it down to the following scopes:

1.5-6 or up to 9 X 40mm or 3-12 X 40mm or close to that, no 50mm (I think the 50mm will be too large for my rifle) in the following makes:

Schmidt Bender, Zeiss Diavari or Swarovski ZF.

Any advice would be appreciated; I am new to the scopes and rifles, mostly stayed with handguns.  Not a hunter, mostly target pratice and being ready for the Big One in CA. Loco

Tried to post a WTB but cannot seem to post there, any suggestions?

Thanks for taking the time to read this thread.

I recently when through a complete anal assessment of the scope I should put on a HK SLB2000 and ended up with a Zeiss Conquest 1.8-5.5x38.  And for a HK 630 I   ended up with a Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x50 for the sole reason it was going to be used alot at night and based on night hunting tests in Norway or Finland it was the winner.

Dougk,

Thanks for the advice.  On your Zeiss Conquest 1.8-5.5x38 slection how far can you shoot and see?  My eyes are not the best any more.

Most of my hunting shots are in the 100 yard range and 5.5x  is more than enough.  At the range I have found I can easily see the target and sight in scopes using 8x.  Having said all that, the importer of the EAW mounts dicked around with the shipping and I did not receive the mount until Tuesday with our son being born on Monday I have not had a chance to take the gun out to see how it works, let alone take the 45 min drive one way to the range.  So I cant answer your question from experience.

That is a very unique gun you have. I own a few HK's myself and I am envious.

I like the idea of a Zeiss. I would also keep it Teutonic and get a Diavari. There are some for a reasonable price here http://www.samplelist.com/default.aspx?display_num=10&mfg_selection=15&prod_type=-1&hide_sold=false

Thanks to both of you, here are a few more pictures.  I still won't get to shoot it for about nine more days due to our 10 day wait here in CA.  So it gives me time to look for a scope.  I woiuld like to be able to shoot close 100 yards and then quite aways out maybe to 500 yards.  Mostly target shooting.

The scope is mounted to a clamp that fits in these holes, supposed to zeros out on each take off and reinstall.
Here are the parts that the scope mounts with:
Also is a Zeiss or Zeiss Conquest the same as a Zeiss Diavari?

You have the whole package intact, very nice. It looks like you have both sets of rings, too. That is the nicest SL I have seen in years. I was looking at them when I bought my HK 91 over 25 years ago.
The Diavari has the T* coating and the Conquest has the MC coating. The T* coating is better and costlier.
Some of the other cost savings on the Conquests are that they are assembled here and use 1" tubes. Nether one being bad in itself.

I was looking at a HK 911 and making it CA compliant which still has it own problems with LE in CA and then saw this on HKFORUMS for sale.  It is the same rifle but a different stock no LE problems.

Two things not in the package one was the original box, second was the HK sight alignment tool.  Posted a WTB on HKFORUMS for the HK sight alignment tool and found someone that wanted to trade it for one of my 10 round magazines.  It was fine with me as I found six other 10-rounders from someone else, losing one was no big deal, and the tool is great.  I have been told that the original box was cardboard with Styrofoam insert and very few if any have survived this long.

Although, as I though about it, if I get the scope the sight is useless.  Oh well.

Thanks for the update on the Zeiss coatings.  This is a great forum for these questions.

BTW, I forgot, welcome to O.T.!
I have had one of those tools for years and only found myself using it when using hand loads in my 91. The diopter is just OK compared to  M1/M14 and AR sites in my book.
Regardless, the cammed roller blocking bolt is an extremely rugged and well thought out mechanism in modern firearms design. I am a big fan of HK, rifles and roscoes.

Thanks for the warm welcome and comments.  I have always had firearms, but handguns are my bag.  Just warming up to rifles.  I have an AR-15, BAR 7MM Remmingtom Mag, M1 carbine, 10/22 Ruger, and a few shot guns.

HK pistols are my favorite, I really like the P7 series.
