Good Morning all
I am new to this forum, just registered this morning. I just purchased an Armalite AR 10 A10A4CBF and I have been doing some research on scopes. I am going to do some target shooting seldom more than 200yards and I plan on getting into some tactical shooting in the future. I like the idea of an integral mounting system so I can easily remove the glass so the AR fits more easily in my safe. My initial budget is $1,300.00 but that is not chiseled in stone. I would appreciate your opinions/suggestions and I am sure there are questions I need to answer yet to get through the selection process so bring them on.

Here are the specs on the AR 10

Caliber: .308/7.62 X 51mm NATO
Barrel: 16" Double Lapped, Chrome Lined, Threaded 5/8x24, 4140 Steel
Rifling Twist: RH 1:11.25" 150-175 Grain Ammo
Muzzle Device: Flash Suppressor
Front Sight Base: Picatinny Rail Gas Block. Top of gas block is .398 (+/- .010) lower than top of receiver
Upper Receiver: Forged Flat Top Receiver with Picatinny Rail and Forward Assist 7175-T74 Aluminum
Lower Receiver: 7175-t73 Aluminum (forged)
Trigger: Tactical Two Stage, 1st Stage 3.5 lbs - 2nd Stage Approximately 5-6 lbs.
Overall Length: 35" / 38.25"
Weight: 7.9 LBS
Finish: Anodized Aluminum Upper/Lower Receiver, Manganese Phosphated Steel Barrel
Accuracy: 2 - 2 1/2" MOA
Included with Rifle: One Magpul Pmag 20LR, USMC Quick Adjustable Sling, Sling Swivel Mount, Owners Manual, Limited Lifetime Warranty, Black Hard Case

Thanks for looking at my post.
Regards
Greg

If you really intend to stick to mostly 200yds and under, my preference would be the SS 1-4.  If you are going to reach out to the recommended max effective range of the 7.62x51, I'd go with the new SS 1-6HD.  We are talking value and all around utility for the dollar here.  World class optics for a bargain price and a reputation of being able to withstand the harshest treatment and environments.  You are in the "Tactical Scopes" section so I percieve you intend to concentrate on "tactical type" usages.  The SS line cannot be equaled for quality and value without paying HUNDREDS of more dollars... then, if you pay hundreds of more dollars, the value comes into question.  Then, if you REALLY want to reach the limits of 7.62, you have the new SS3-15... great reticle, better glass than the "average", the toughness of the SS line.
Of course, these scopes are designed with the "all around" shooter in mind, target, tactical, hunter.  They are good for all.

Greg will this rifle see use hunting or in a self defense role or will use be primarily target use.
If you are primarily using it for target shooting from a bench you may want more magnification but you pay a price with the added size and weight of a large optic which is typically found on the 20 in and 24 in barrel guns. The 1-4 and better the 1-6 Super Sniper would be nice choices for the 16 in rifle but even the 3-9x42 version would be a good all around choice for that rifle. I am really familiar with the rifle and when you have a big rifle with a big scope is can become a really big bulky package. I have had several scopes on  AP4 and LR308 guns and my favorite is still a Trijicon ACOG because you do get some magnification but it is not a huge scope however it is more of a combat or self defense scope than a target scope. For target use I really like something with a top power of 15 to as much as 20.
With eihter the BOBRO or a La Rue quick detachable mount you can remove the optic and it will retain its zero when you place it back on the rifle.   I suggest you look over the entire Super Sniper line of scopes and also look at the ACOG.

Kickboxer and Urimaginaryfrnd I appreciate your suggestions and I am going to start researching all of your suggestions as soon as I finish this reply. As far as what I am going to be using the rifle for, I very seriously doubt I will ever get the chance to use it for self defense and I am not a sniper. What I will be doing is some occasional (not competitive) target shooting 200 to 300 yards max.  I am going to join a tactical shooting group and I plan on using this rifle. I am not familiar with SS but  I have used Trijicon fixed and adjustable open sights. The only other scopes I have are Nikon and Leupold. I have a lot to learn and again thanks for your help.

You'd be hard pressed to fine a better scope than the SS 3-9 for just a generic scope for what your doing.
