I want to change the rings on my Savage when mounting a Nikon Prostaff. Maybe change the base too, but I haven't decided yet. I want a 2 piece base for sure if I do change it. I also don't want to break the bank, but want a reliable set. Any suggestions?

I was originally looking at the $6-10 Weaver's they sell at Walmart, but wasn't sure how they would hold up or if they are any better than the package deal rings. I also want to mention that I hope to upgrade to the SWFA SS 5-20x when it comes out. I realize this may be a while so these rings may be used for a year or two. I mainly plan to hunt with this rifle, so want solid mounts, but I don't want to spend $50 on a set of rings. So, what should I go with?

I've checked those out, but I don't want to spend quite that much. I guess if I have to I will though. I really was hoping to find something for around $30.

Also a Nikon prostaff has a 1 inch tube.  The SS 5-20 will have a 30mm tube, so you will not be able to use the same rings anyway.

We're talking Weaver-style bases here, right?
I used Leupold Rifleman rings and bases to put a scope on a 30/30 last year. Worked fine, looked good.
The Weaver Sure-Grip rings look like they would work.

I know which is why I don't want to spend a fortune on these rings now when I will just be changing them out in the future anyway.

Right now just the base that came on the rifle. It's a Weaver style, but I have no idea of the brand. This rifle was a package deal from Walmart with chip rings and base and a Simmons 8 Point scope. I'm sure the base is crappy, but so far it's worked fine and I've not noticed any slipping of the rings, scope, base, or anything else.

Save your $ and use your current set up so you can buy Burris Signature Rings with the inserts to protect your SS when you buy it.
