Probably been asked in some form before, but, What mag/obj range of scope would you recommend for 100-200 yards for mainly target shooting?
thank you, Maori

Thanks Voodoo, good info.
I guess I should have phrased the question something like this:
Which of these two ranges would be most preferable for target shooting 100 to 400 yards ?   3.5x10x50   or  4.5x14x50
thanks, M

I like the 4.5-14 range a lot. 4.5 is low enough on the low end for targets, and if you have the right conditions to use the extra power, 14x is nice for precision work. You can always turn it down if you don't need it.

Pretty much surmised my thoughts as well. More power means more mirage issues.
I'd also stay with a target dot reticle, or maybe a thin duplex.

If thats all you intend on doing with it, I would definately use a super sniper 10x42 (plus its only about $300).....

If you only target shoot from a bench rest in full daylight higher magnification is your friend and you will enjoy having target / tactical knobs.  I find that it is nice to have a scope with higher magnification range like a 20x + so that you can see the holes in the 200 yd target without the aid of a spotting scope.  I will post some scopes that I think you should consider, please note that if  you want to use the scope for hunting you want lower magnification like a 3-9x 40 Super Sniper  but for daylight target these would do nicely:

Go with the 4.5 x 14 x 50.
