Large eggs at 100 yards with a 9x... 4a is fine.  If it is under three hundred yards I can't see any of the 6 to 20something scopes.  Explaining how you missed the one at fifty feet with all that gear will not be fun at all.

If you want a little more mag for head shots at 150 can always go for an intermediate variable, say 4-16.  Low end should be ok for closer shots as well.

If you intend getting variable then make sure your bottom end can go down to 2,5 or 3, as being a small cal you are likely to take close shots as well. The bigger the magnification the more likely you will need a steady rest. But buy the most magnification you can afford if it is on a variable. Then you can set it from 2,5 or 3 to all the ranges inbetween. It does not only work on the min and the maximum!!
