First time poster here, but I've been lurking for awhile.  I went to a gunshow yesterday and bought an 6.5-06 rifle and it has a fixed 7.5X AO Leupold rifle scope on it.  I really didn't have time to check it over real close yet but I did snap a few pictures when I got it home.

Looks like an old VX-I to me.  I have one similar except mine is a 3-9x

I beleive it's an older M8 Leupold from back in the 70's not sure if they made them into the 80's.  Rifle appears to be made on a Husquvarna action.  There is a following for the fixed 7.5X Leupy's so if you want to sell it you won't have any problems.  Nice find by the way; 6.5-06 is an great round.

I've had a few guys on other forums hit me up for it already and they all told me it is an M8 as well.  Problem with the scope is it is mounted in Buehler rings and how do I get them off?  The guys told me as well the Buehler rings were probably installed by Leupold custom shop.  I guess they would put the scope together with the rings on the tube and then recharge the fill.  I'm afraid if I sent it in to Leupold to remove the rings I wouldn't get the scope back, that they would just offer me a new scope.  But I don't want to take a saw to the rings as well for fear of damaging the scope tube.  The 7.5X isn't a scope I'm interested in on this rifle, but it would work well on one of my .223 varmint rigs.

Yeah the rifle is an HVA action with Canjar single set trigger and tang safety.  I managed to pick up the rifle with scope, a set of dies, all his fire formed brass,  and another Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 scope for far less money than I expected.  I felt pretty good about the whole deal the rifle just has a stock that isn't my style and will either need reshaping or a new stock.

Cheek piece needs a lot of work and the grip needs to be opened up.  I'd remove the barrel tension screws and rework the beaver tail forend as well.  Then it has a maple spacer in the butt with a steel trapdoor buttplate that I'd remove and add a recoil pad.  However, I think it will be easier to relocate another stock.

I'm sure if you called Leupold they'd be able to take the rings off and send it back.  I dont' think they'd try to keep it. But I'd call and make sure they'd tackle the task first.

Bringing this one back up.  I've been out to shoot this rifle and the scope was way off on windage.  I centered the scope and then used the windage screws to bore sight the scope.

Now my question is what is the MOA adjustment on these M8 scopes?  I was treating them as 1/2 MOA adjustments but the scope moved more like 1 MOA per indicator mark.  I think I'm going to wind up sending this scope back to Leupold as the AO adjustment is almost frozen and was very stiff to turn.

So explain to me why the hell you really need to take the rings off Whacko just remove the screw on the rear base rotate the scope 90 degrees to seperate it from the front base and lift it up.  The scope will obviously need rings on any rifle it will be placed on in the future just use a Buehler  base DONE DONE. No doubt you would be able to sell scope & rings & base set as a package and go one your merry way placing whatever mount and optic you prefer.

Also why dont you leave it as it and shoot it a while once you get the glass on it that you want rather than starting right off with your hack saw.  If the stock is really not to your likeing after a year and you simply cant live with a slip over style recoil pad then consider selling it as is to someone who truley appreciates its unique features.  If you simply think the 6.5- 06 is a cool caliber you can always have Bullberry build an Encore barrel in that caliber or many other exotic calibers  http://www.bullberry.com/encore.html
And if you really want a custom gun where you select every feature call GA Precision.
