This could be considered a tag on to my posted question about My Remington 870 referb. But I realized that I pretty much over whelmed my cry for help with to many questions. So short and sweet Could I ask for experience based recommendations on short range scopes for night hog hunting etc.. This will be mostly done from blinds at 100yrds or less mostly much less.
As of now I am leaning towards offering like 1-4x24 illuminated and the like. I would like to stay or maybe I should say I have to stay under $300.00. Is this a good direction as to power and light gathering capability's?

So far if I continue in this direction I am liking the Hawke 1-4x24 or their 1.25-4.5 both with my federate #4 and lighted. How do these compare to other like offerings etc.
Well I plain to start putting this together soon so any help would really be appreciated.

I have a couple of Hawke illuminated scopes and like them. I am not sure if they would hold up to the recoil of a 870 12 guage. I've never scoped a scatter/slug gun so couldn't help with personal experience there. Might look at Vortex and see if they have anything you like. I've never dealt with Hawke customer service, but can say that you won't find better customer support than Vortex has.

Thanks Ive looked at some of their mid price offerings on line. I may have to take the 1.5hr. drive to the SWFA warehouse the day I take the plunge just to see the final contenders in person. I know that the SS offering is very tempting and comes highly recommended but it is well over twice my original  budget.

I normally am not so hesitate in my stride but this project is coming right on the heals of another rather expensive rifle build and is really a MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK project if you know what I mean.

Check out the Leatherwood 14CMR.  Everyone I have showed it to has had nothing but positives to say about it.  Before I sent my 375 H&H in for some work, it resided on that rifle and the rifle is on its way home... the CMR is what it will "wear".  Great low light capabilities. I really like the illuminated reticle because it is actually useable in low light.  Glass is much better than expected.  Turret adjustments are crisp, audible, and cosistent.
