Like the forum says "Anything Goes" so fell free to post anything you feel like. Been thinking about posting something, but you just weren't sure what forum to post it in.... well here you go. Politics, cars, sports, etc., pretty much anything you want to get feed back on or you just want everyone to see this is the place to do it. You may have noticed we have a few regular poster's that have worked there way up to "Optics Pro" and "Optics Master". If you guys wouldn't mind helping us out, and try to get this forum off and running that would be great. Not just them but everyone, we would like to hear from YOU also. Edited by Chris |

Well.......I am posting this to try and convey to you folks in the US of A, how frustrating it is to see, on the web, all the wonderfull gear available to
you over there, only to find that oftern the seller won't ship to New Zealand!!! What's the problem?....is it illegal?....or are we just in the "too hard basket"?....too small a market to bother about? Anyway.....if it's a new "security" issue....then I think in NZ's (and Australia's) case it's silly.....our SAS guys are in Afganistan with your guys....but I could understand the bureaucrats being "twitchy". Well.....as I said...just to let you know.......It's healthy to vent now and again!! Cheers all. PS; I have hanging in my surfshop, my great grandfathers "Stars and Stripes".....he emigrated to NZ in 1903 from Philidelphia.....he used to fly it on his back yard flag pole, which over-looked Auckland harbour, every 4th of July. It has 45 stars. I hung it up in the store on the 12th of September 2001......it's still there. |

Our "U.S. only" policy came about for several reason. The first reason was an insane amount of credit card fraud from International orders and we have to eat every single one of them not the credit card company. Second was the lack of participation by International banks in the address verification part of the credit card approval. Third was packages getting lost or damaged (routinely) and having to fight for months to get paid off the insurance. Fourth was International customers continuously asking for us to lie on the customs form so they would not have to pay duty and taxes, then getting mad because we would not break the law. Also guess what we would get paid on an insurance claim if we declared a $1000.00 scope as a $100.00 scope. Fifth was International customers getting very upset of what the actual shipping charges were costing on high value shipments. Sixth was the United States Department of Defense's minimum 10 million dollar fine if we ship any optic that the military buys (and there's a bunch of them). We weighed the positives vs. the negatives vs. how much International business we did, and decided to stop all International shipments. I hope you understand our reasons and will still visit our site and forum.

Thank you Chris,
I appreciate your candid reply. I am amazed at your international credit card experience. I do not have (and never have had) a credit card, if this is what happens with credit cards, I'm not surprised that you do not use them! All my foreign purchases have been in the USA or Australia. I have allways used (manual) bank drafts obtained from my bank in US or Aussie dollars and posted to the vendor...inclusive of the pre-determined freight charges. The vendors have forwarded goods only when the draft amount was cleared into their account......at my risk. As to your third point, I have requested FedEx or UPS "door to door" and have had no losses, nor have friends. I don't trust government postal services with packages....only letters. I'm absolutely with you regarding your fifth point......hey, if it's unaffordable legitimately then it's unaffordable. Freight....you want it, you pay for it!!! Your sixth point is THE point.....frustration on my part, and other's, is a result of US legislation....which to all of us has to seem absurd in the face of objective reality!......these scopes and these reticles are available from many manufacturers and countrys. How oftern do you hear people say "Hey...great piece of legislation!!" ???? To close Chris, I do understand your reasons and I will definately visit your fine site regularly........Cheers.......Jetta. |
