Hi guys, I'm putting together a 10/22 target build (kidd components) and would appreciate opinions on what scope I should get. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Weaver T-36 or V-24.

I'll be mainly shooting for groups at 50 and 100, occasionally lobbing them out to 200-300, and plinking. No hunting or formal competition.

Having a variable scope would be nice, but my concerns with the V-24 are a possible loss of sharpness beyond 20x (according to comments on the interwebs), whether it would be able to track reasonably well (since it doesn't have the micro track system used in the T series) and whether the extra 12x I'd get with the T-36 would be a significant advantage.

If I get the V-24, I'd probably go with the varmint reticle, which has finer crosshairs than the mil-dot (even though the latter would be useful for ranging and holdover). If I get the T-36, I could easily swap it out with my Mueller APV as needed.

So which one would you guys choose? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who's used both. Thanks in advance.

I'd have to say in this particular case the t-36.  Justification - its a 22.  Mirage shouldn't be a huge issue with them big barrels and 22 rounds, that said.  I've seen them get real hot but for informal plinking I doubt you'll be heating it up that bad.  Then again depending on your location the environment can contribute to mirage to.   For groups I like a bit more over a bit less.

Thanks for the welcome.

Mirage definitely won't be an issue from the barrel. It could be a slight problem in the summer where I live. I think I agree, better to have more mag than needed, than to have less and regret not going higher.
