This will be my first Rifle since shooting with my Dad growing up.

Now I have 2 boys that I'd like to share that experance with now that they are old enough also this is the thing for me as I age.....I can't stand Golf.

Anyway I'm looking to get the CZ 453 American 22lr and the specs say it has a .4in Dovetail. the Scope I'm concidering is the Weaver V-16, 4-16 x 42. I like the fact that the objective lens gives you a parallax-free view from 30 feet to infinity.
My question is will I need to replace the base and what rings to use? Great looking forum, alot to read and learn, it's been years for me!

The CZ American has a standard US style 3/8" dovetail rail instead of the 11mm found on most European rimfires, so any "rimfire" rings should work.
BKL rings and bases are spoken highly of for European rifles, by the crowd at RFC, as they adapt well to either dovetail size:

I've even had success with the inexpensive B-square  "interlock" and "sport utility rings". I believe the Interlock rings are what Anschutz rebadges as "their" tip-off style rings.

SWFA has all of those.

The V16 is really a great scope for a rimfire rifle that must be accurately shot anywhere from 10yds-200yds. I'd love to get one for my Anschutz, but am waiting for a super deal on one.

Thanks for the link Poodleshooter1. So this type ring will clamp right on to the existing Dovetail?
What height do you think I'll need with this scope,  I'd hate to buy medium to find that I need high or could have used low.

I think the medium will be fine. BKL have a very good reputation among the air gun crowd, too. A rimfire will present none of the problems that a heavy springer does. The BKL is a great way to go.

The big problem scoping CZ rimfires is the bolt handle hitting the ocular lens during cycling. On the Military trainer/Scout/Lux/Ultra Lux/FS the usual objective lens/rear sight issue can be encountered as well, but that's not a problem for the varmint or American models.
Honestly, I would run it by the folks at rimfirecentral for their expertise. Many people there have the V16 mounted.

I have a 453 in 17HMR and have a V16 on it.  I would suggest using the Burris signature airgun rings.  They will fit your dovetail and hold that scope perfectly while never leaving a mark on the scope.  My favorite rings by far!

The medium rings are the perfect height but it is a real close fit when you go to remove the bolt.  I personally prefer the lower mounted scope and am willing to put up with a tight squeeze for bolt removal.  If this is an issue the high mount would allow more room.

The V16 and the 453 is a really nice setup.  I wish I had their new reticle in mine though.  That would be the perfect setup.  The V16 turrets are very accurate and repeatable so don't be afraid to dial for varying distances.

HTH,

Scot
