I've got two Grand Slams.  Other than being short on eye relief they are very nice and,so far, dependable scopes.  Which brings up the subject of C/S.  Not real sure how it would be.
Don't know a thing about the 40/44.  The best?  The T-Series.  But I have read good things about their top of line hunting scopes, the Super Slams.

In the Weaver variable-power lineup their top of the line scope is the Super Slam, but it is HEAVY.  By the way, the Super Slam is the same scope as the Nitrex TR two that was recently discontinued ("Nitrex Optics by Weaver").  There may still be a few out there on clearance sale at a great price.  Nitrex extended the $100 rebate through 3/31.

Weaver's next best variable is the Grand Slam.  From what I've read it seems to be a well respected scope that has proven itself over the years.  Reportedly, the Nitrex TR one is essentially the same optically as the Grand Slam.  The TR One is also on clearance sale and can be had for less than $100 after a $50 rebate.

I believe the Weaver Classic V-Series is the next best followed by the 40/44 series.  There are some aspherical versions of the 40/44 that are more expensive.  Weaver also recently introduced the "Buck Commander" line.  Based on price, it looks like it falls somewhere between the Classic V and the 40/44.

My experience has been that it's not easy to find a lot of reviews or comments about Weaver scopes.  Weaver hardly ever gets mentioned on this forum, so I don't expect you'll get many replies.  However, when people do occasionally share their experiences and opinions about Weaver the feedback is usually positive.  Their scopes seem to have a reputation for good clarity and durability and are generally considered to be a very good value.  Weaver seems to pack a lot of good features and solid construction into their scopes while still managing to sell them at an attractive price.

If your looking for a fixed power the K Series are great. Put a K4 on my wife's .243 and it is a much better scope than I anticipated for the price. Made in JAPAN not China either on the K series.
