Ordered a Weaver Rimfire 2x7 a few months back, had it out squirrel hunting a couple of times and to the range several times as well.  It is a replacing a Sightron SII 4x, which I liked a lot but wanted to try something with higher magnification as an option and a wider possible field of view (for when those tree rats are upclose and scampering away through the brush).

I like the Weaver, both the wider field of view and the higher magnification have been useful hunting--though I also have some reservations.  It's a little dimmer and less clear than the Sightron, when set on 4x.  I wish it was x32 rather than x28.  I'm not yet used to the wider black circle around the field of view, which the Sightron lacks.  I've also had problems with sunlight glinting off the crosshair, for example, this morning with the sun low, in front and to my left, the left horizontal crosswire and the thick part of the lower vertical crosswire were glinting gold enough that I could not see my targets.  It looked like it was the edges of the crosswires reflecting.  The only other scope I had with me was a Leupold M8 6x and its crosshair stayed true black.  (The weaver's view is much sharper than the Leupolds, when set on 6x).

I've heard the Weaver highly praised.  Anyone had a similar problem with the duplex?  I'm kind of on the fence about this scope.  That glinting might be a deal breaker, it was pretty pronounced.

The weaver is a pretty decent rimfire scope, but probably doesn't compare well to the sightron SII glass.  Once you get used to a certain level of optics its hard to step down to lessor glass.

The glass seemed fine, not quite as sharp as the sightron, but easily better than the old M8.  I didn't mind the view.  The problem seemed to be whatever treatment they give the crosshairs to make the non-reflective.  The edges of the scrosshairs seemed not to have received this treatment?  I'm guessing as I know nothing of scope construction.  Was wondering if I'd perhaps received a defective scope or if this was a problem others have experienced....
