When mounting a scope with this style does it make any difference on what side of the rifle you put the base attachment "thumbscrews" and which side you put the screws that secure the scope in the rings? Any difference in performance or looks?

Typically, you would want the nuts or thumbscrews on the opposite of your ejection port.

More of a rule of thumb than anything.

Always try to keep anything away and clear from your ejection port.

Most captive receivers force you to mount the QD levers on the right side, HOW EVER, like Cheaptrick, I prefer my levers on the left side. The theory behind the levers on the R/H side is that most people will clock the QD levers upward. On the R/H side with the levers up, heavy recoil will tighten the rings. On the left, it will loosen. I don't shoot anything larger than a 30-06, so I don't worry about it. I mount my levers on the left so I don't have to deal with anything around the ejection port.
