I recently picked up a nice Savage .22 model 23 AA. It has a weaver M29S special scope on it that is cloudy. I have been researching (as best I can) and want to stay with the vintage package. I know the 23AA was made in the late 1930's but can't seem to find any info on when the M29 scope was made. I know the 330 and 440 were early models then there seems to be a void (WWII) then lots of B4/B6/C4/C6/D series and G series. I have been talking to a guy in Missouri that repairs damaged Weavers and have seen a few on ebay go from $75-$360 so repair is a definate option...help!!

Also my eyes aren't like they use to be so I am considering going with a higher power V series to get the variable adjustment. However these and the K series have 1" tubes and the 23AA has a S1 tip=off mount for 3/4" rings. Is there a 1" tip-off side mount available? Is there a side mount/rail combo that will align with the current side mount holes? Tapping the receiver with more holes is NOT an option.

According to this auction site they were made from 1937 - 1947.

I have a Marlin 81 DL with which I had the same issue. I was able to find weaver side mounts for 1 inch scope online which matched my particular holes so they are still being made. I was worried about stability but so far it has been more stable than numerous other 3/8 dovetail mounts.
