Most 2nd plane scopes don't list dot size.  I can tell you that it is so small we have customers call back and say we must have sent them the wrong the scope because they can't see it.  It basically looks like the dot is just a hair larger than the intersection of the horizontal and vertical fine crosshair.

2nd. plane reticle ? does this mean the reticle get finer & coarser as magnification goes up & down ?

or stay constant.

What size would you say the dot, horizontal & verticle's are ?

2nd means it stays the same size.  1st means it gets larger.  Just remember that the Europeans were the FIRST to make scopes and their reticles are in the FIRST focal plane.  Americans were the SECOND to make scopes and ours are in the SECOND focal plane.

I don't know what size the dot is but it will be the same horizontally as it will be vertically.

Does this mean that at higher magnification the target area covered is greater than one inch ???

Less than 1".  The reticle is in the second focal plane and remains the same size but as you increase the power the target gets bigger so a second plane reticle will actually cover less of the target as the power is increased.

Hmmmmm that dot size for the Weaver seems mighty small 0.0020 as Sightrons dot @24x is .270 = 1/4@100yds approx and .125dot @36 for approx 1/8 @100......so 0.0020 seems very small for the Weaver & to cover 1"@100 even at 6x

would help if I learned to read my own notes.......

dot sizes is 20 thousandths.....not 0.0020 inches as originally posted......sorry !!

with this corrected info ...what will the dot cover at 100 yds and 20x ???

from your info re: SIGHTRON scopes ; it appears that a 20/1000 dot could be ok FOR TARGET SHOOTING AT 100 YD....covering less than a 1/4 " ........
