Gday i have a 300 Winny mag in stainless. Im looking to put a nice set of decent budget priced optics on it.

Im thinking of putting a Weaver grand slam 3.5-10x50 scope on it in stainless.

1)What are the optics like on this scope compared to the leupolds and the Bushnell elite,s. Eg how much lite does it allow in, Clarity, brightness, and above all what is this scope like in low lite conditions.Eg, close to dusk and dark.

2) Will this scope handle the recoil of the big 300 win mags.

3) Does The grand slam have a good reputation for reliability and performance.

4) Overall how would you compare this brand and scope with the Leupold and bushnell elite. Because im looking for something better than the Bushnell and as good as the Leupold but not as pricey as the Leupold scopes.

I steering towards this way because there are not a lot of stainless scopes out there with a 50mm objective lens.
Thanks for everyone,s advice

my uncle has a grandslam on a m70 .338 mag and its held up for 3yrs so far no issues. the bushnell elite 4200 is better imo than any leupold in the same price range.

I have a 3-10x40 Grand slam. I am very impressed with it. A mate of mine has recently changed from a VX 1 to a Grand Slam for his .300wsm.  The tracking is excellent, as good as a VX 2  target scope I had (probably better) Optically they are tops.

One thing to consider is that the eye relief is less than the Leupolds which would be worth considering for your rifle.I have a nice crescent shaped scar from my scope from shooting at a Himalayan Tahr at a steep uphill angle.

You can't go wrong with a Grand Slam.

I have both the 4.75 fixed GS and an Elite4200 1.5x6. The GS is just about as equal to the Elite with regards to light transmission which says much about the variable going up against a decent fixed in that regard. Clarity wise the Elite is superior.

I think the Grand Slam offers about the best performance in its price range. I would say for clarity its closer to a Bushnell 4200 Elite much better then the 3200 Elite. I don't know what Elite scope you were comparing to a Leupold but I find the 4200 Elite to be as nice or nicer than any Leupold out there in terms of optical performance.

The Weaver G/S should hold up fine to a 300 mag, the only concern I would have is it has pretty short eye relief. I don't consider a 300 win to be a shoulder breaker but it rocks enough if you creep up on the scope it will bite you.

Some people don't like the look of the Weaver G/S because of the focus wheel, personally I love it with gloved hands so I find beauty in its function...It's a great scope for the money, infact its a great scope period.

Happy shooting
