Hello, This is my first post.  I recently purchased a rem. 700 sps varmint and will be getting a nikon scope with a 42mm objective. I have read the thread about how to determine scope ring height but I have been unable to find how thick the base I am looking at is. the base is:

Weaver 1-Piece Multi Slot Tactical Base for Remington 700 Short Action Matte

I have decided on the leupold PRW 1" matte but am unable to decide between low and med.
I really do not like the space between the scope and barrel so I dont want to "just play it safe."
I would greatly appreciate any info you all would have, I have read many posts on this site and trust you knowledgable folks. THANKS
Kevin

Anytime you mix components from different manufacturers their tables do not apply. I understand where you are coming from and I tried to look it up but my catelogue is out of date so the numbers are different. I personally would use the medium rings with a 42mm scope and expect to  have enough clearance to use flip up butler creek lens caps which I would tape onto the scope to prevent loss.  I however would not use either the rings or base you have selected. This is what I would use.

Or I might use this base and Burris rings with these plastic inserts inside to adjust for plus minute of angle especially since the Nikons dont have much internal adjustment.

as far as ring ht, goes the leo low with a 30 mm tubes are not as low as the low rings with a 1" tube. also prw rings are not picatinny and have a slot width of about .16 while a picatinny slot runs about .19 to .20  this means you will have a back and forth wiggle. Usually tactical rings also have longer and deeper grabbers , which when used with a weaver type mount will sometimes bottom out before the fully grasp the base, The lowest set up would be to use Warne weaver bases and there lowest mount. I think the lowest rings would be the IOR, but then you are back to a picatinny rail.

I might be wrong but does the PRW mean something like permanent weaver style

and that specific base is a weaver style, not a picatinny
so I thought they would match up

prw's are for weaver base, but leo advertises them for tactical bases, some tactical bases depending on the maker can vary per slot width. in either case the low 30 mm leos are higher than the low Warne.
