Does weatherby make a scope or rebadge another brand/  I have a buddy with weatherby gun and a scope that has weatherby on it, but I can't recall if it looks like anything else I have seen.

There were two different scope manufacturers that made scopes for Weatherby. The first ones were made in Germany by Hertel & Reuss and after that they were made by one of the Japanese OEM's. The funny looking ones, the ones with the windage and elevation turrets on the top of the scope, were made in Germany.

I have never heard any bad reports on the Japanese-made Weatherby scopes--but then I don't think there ever were an awful lot of them, either!

i have a weatherby with a weatherby japanese scope and the optics are top notch.  the rifle was made around 1988.  however, it is the only weatherby i have never shot, so i cannot vouch for it's credentials with respect to holding zero and the other mechanical aspects of the scope.  But optically, comparing it against other scopes of the same time period, it holds its own very well.  i do not believe Roy would top his rifles with a 2 bit scope as it would not have been in his best interest, although for cost savings, I do not think he would top it with a 1000 dollar model.

As you stated the Imperial line of Weatherby scopes was made by Hertel & Reuss.  The two turrets on the top are not windage and elevation but a combined windage\elevation turret and a focusing turret.  The windage\elevation turret has one set of adjustments on the outside and the other on the inside as you look down at it.  I can't recall which is which.  I believe the focus turret moves the erector back and forth to set the focus.  These were front focal plane scopes and have non centered reticles with good optics.  A 2-3/4X-10X Hertel & Reuss scope I have has a similar setup with the windage\elevation turret on the top and the focus turret on the side.  I hope this helps.

My father-in-law has a Japanese Weatherby optic,, Seems awfully close in appearance to an older Nikon optic ??? Either way , it is pretty nice ,and compares optically to a newer VX-II
