I watched Mythbusters tonight and they tested the terminal affects of different calibers shot into the water. They shot into the water at 23 degrees into a block of ballistics gel. I don't know how thick the gel was but it looked about one foot thick. They actually shot two calibers straight down until they busted the container they filled with water with the second round they shot. Then they moved to a public pool for the other calibers.
The pistol shot 9mm FMJ 147gr. straight down through 8 feet of water and straight through the ballistics gel. The round didn't mushroom.
12 gauge shotgun with 3 inch deer slug busted the container but only entered the gel about an inch.
5.56mm from an M-4, 30-06 from a Garand, and .50 cal from a Armalite 50 all shredded into pieces before hitting the gel that was only 3 feet away.
I'm not suprised by those results it's just some crazy useless info, unless you are running from someone who wants to shoot you and there is deep open water no more than 5 feet away from you. |

I watched the same show. I was surprised the .50 only went 14 inches. I also noticed that they had a POS Bushnell mounted on that .50. It couldn't of withstood very many shots. I thought it was quite funny.

I credit the POS Bushnell with the supposed weapons expert they had on the show, if you noticed who the person was. Ha Ha Ha |

Damn it.....I've suffered through so many of their shows and one finally airs that would be worth watching and I miss it.
The ones during shark week were okay but way too drawn out. |
