I was wondering how good the water resistance actually is on the padCelestron Ultima  vs  the complete waterproofing  on say  the Vortex skyline .  For a hunter is  the water resistance enough, is it a good enough coating or if you are carrying it in a pack and the pack gets wet your screwed.  Are the models that are water resistant merely for casual users , birdwatchers from a living room and an occasional outing.  Any replies would be appreciated...

Mark, the only way to get an answer is to ask the company what do they really mean. If you look at the JIS standards on this board, you will see that even fully waterproof optics are waterproof only for a few minutes.

Maybe water resistant means rain resistant?
