Just mounted a Zeiss Conquest on my remington 700 mountain rifle. I used Warne Maxima rings and bases. As far as I can tell I mounted everything properly, tight fit all around. However, when I turn the rifle side to side or shake the rifle I can hear a slight rattling or clicking sound as though the recoil key is moving ever so slightly.(It's not the scope or the gun) Any ideas on this? Is this normal? Thanks for any info, Bricat

Doesnt sound right to me, did you take the rings back off to see if the recoil key is secure?

On some Warne rings the recoil key is very slightly loose in its slot.  That is usually not a big deal.  However, the only way it can make the rattling sound is if you managed to mount it exactly in the center of the crossslot, so it has room to move.  Typically, you want to mount you scope so that the recoil key is tight against the front of the crosslot.  You can simply set the rifle up so that it leans forward a little, then loosen the rings so that they slide forward just a touch.  Then retighten the rings.  If the rattling noise is still there, that it is likely something else rattling.

All Hail The Dark Lord Of Optics !!! Koshkin you are the man! I did exactly what you said. I stood my rig up on end (barrel) loosened the bottom screws of the mounts and every thing dropped down(forward) about 1/8" ,tightened it all back up and guess what?-NO RATTLE! thank you so much for that information, Bricat
