Should I go through the trouble to lap a set of Warne Maxima rings before mounting a new scope? Much of what I've come across pertaining directly to these rings seems to lean towards the side that they are very gentle on scopes.

What say you those that have used them?

I have them on all of my scopes with no problems. Never even noticed any ring marks. Heavy suckers though.

I have Warne rings and mounts on the vast majority of my many bolt action rifles and have come to use them exclusively.  I have never used S&K or Conetrol mounts and rings, but I consider Warne to be the best of the best.  I have never experienced a failure on any rifle of any caliber.  I was once a non lapping believer and still am for Warne vertical rings.  I have talked several times to the company and they do not even recommend lapping and do not lap their rings for their competition teams.  I too have never seen any ring marks after removing a scope.  I have gone exclusively to the QD rings as they are easier to mount and with the QD feature I can have different scopes mounted for one rifle.  Plus, the QD levers are spring loaded and can be moved into any position you want after tightening.
