I really don't need a rangefinder, but I want one. The most I would need is 400yds, but really 225 yds is the longest field we have. but we are always increasing our fields, so maybe one day we will have a larger food plot.

I would like some help picking a RF for 200.00 or less.

help guys.. thanks -js

At 225 yards you don't need a rangefinder.  Don't go cheap.  I did and I not only regret it, I spent more money in the long run.  I now have the Leica CRF 1200, and wish that I had done that in the first place.  If that is not in the realm of fiscal possibility, I would recommend the Bushnell YP-800.  It works pretty well.  With it, you can range a deer at an honest 400 yards and leafy trees at 800-900 yards.  With rangefinders, reflectivity of the target is very important to range capability.  Deer are not very reflective especially when they are facing you or quartering.  Most of the time you are actually better off not trying to range the animal, but instead pick out 3 or 4 "targets" in the vicinity that you expect to see deer, range them and commit them to memory.

If it ain't accurate at long distance, the fact that it is flat shooting is irrelevant.

hmm, very interesting, I am not familiar with rangefinders at all. my thoughts are I want to get a nikon omega BDC scope and start hunting further than 100yds with my omega, but I feel that I would need to know the distance to aim accurate.

well I bought the Nikon Prostaff 440, I have decided to start spending on hunts and tags instead of gear from here on for the next couple of years so I took the cheaper way on the rangefinder.  I will let ya'll know what I think about it when it comes in next week. if it will work good up to 300yds, thats good with me cause I don't like shooting at deer any further than that.

I got it in today, very nice, I only played with it for about 10 min here at work,I will play with it more after work, so far I think it is just what I need. I found the optics on it were clear and bright, ranged out to 398yds on some fairly big targets, I will try more stuff this afternoon.

I like this range finder! the only thing I noticed is that at 8X when trying to range out past 300 yds, you have to be really steady - try to control the shaking - I was kinda worked up while playing with it.

LOL! Funny, MERC I hope your old lady doesn't read this site.

I really like my rangefinder, I have used it for all kinds of stuff, made sure my shooting range bench was at the right distance etc..  the only thing I would do different is buy 6X instead of 8X, I find I am kinda shaky at 8X

thanks -js

Don't ever try a Leica.  If you do, you will cry.
