How would the VX-R stack up against the PST 2.5-10x44? I have the PST, haven't used it much but like it. I'd like to hear from those that have looked at both.

I've had the VXR Patrol and a PST, Glass was equivalent to my eyes best my memory serves me.  The plan VXR and the PST are apples and oranges though.  One's a hunting scope, ones a target/tactical scope.

the patrol i had, only had 4 mils of elevation from 100 yard zero in an ADM mount. the pst has 16

I was referring to the vx-r patrol, which has the TMR reticle, not the regular vx-r with the duplex. But I am thinking of putting whichever on a primarily hunting rifle, but like the idea of some Mil holdover points. I have a Nikon M223 I'm thinking of trading in on something else.

I think the Patrol makes a great hunting scope.  It is limited in elevation, but the glass is good and the illumination is awesome.  It is lighter as well.
