Can anyone tell how these three scopes compare in optical quality, durability, eye relief, and shooting to the same place at all power settings. Leupold vxll 3-9x40 Weaver Grandslam 3-10x40 and the Bushnell 3200 3-10x40. How do they rate as hunting scopes. The price is reasonable  for all three scopes so I am only interested in how they rate for quality. Thanks for your help.

If you are comparing the latest VXII Leupold, I would say that it comes down to personal preference for features.  I have both the 3200 and the VX-II and they are pretty comparable.  The Grandslam 3-10x40 gets good marks too.  I happen to be a fan of the 10x scope for flat shooting rifles over the 9x but you may feel differently.  Yes I can see the power difference.  Sorry that I can't draw any clear distinctions.

Thanks for the help. Oldtrader3, If the Weaver and the 3200 really go from a true 3 power to a full 10 power I would consider that a plus. The Leupold 3-9 is actually a 3.3-8.6. I think 10 power is better than 8.6 power at long range. Both the Weaver and the 3200 claim a 35ft. field, slightly larger than the Leupold. Is there any difference in eye relief between the vxll and the 3200?

Eye relief in the 3200 Bushnell is 3.3, the Weaver Grand Slam is 3.5.  Both a little less than the Leupold.  As far as magnification, these both claim to be on spec.

Hi all it has been a long while since I have been on the forums.  So unless things have changed much in the world of scopes and in realtion to the models mentioned.  I would give it to the GrandSlam by just a bit.  Then the Leupy, personally I don't think the Bushnell 3200 is in the same class as the other two.  I love the 4200 Elite but the 3200 would be closer to a VXI with the edge going to the 3200.

Good to be Back !!!!

Gotta agree also.  I've got two Grand Slams and that's just how I'd rate the three brands.

Acenturian, Longhunter, 300S&W, thanks for your help. The rankings have been Weaver the best, Leupold a close 2nd and the 3200 a clear 3rd. I will buy the Grand Slam. 3005&W, what model Grand Slams do you own? The Grand Slam 1.5-5x32 is on sale for $290. I like the specs on this one for a shorter range rifle.

sholling, how does the optical quality of the Weaver G.S. 4.5-14X40 compare with a Leupold vx3 4.5-14x40? I can get the Weaver for $335 and the Leupold for $540.

I haven't looked through a VX3. I have compared a GS 3-10x40 and a Monarch and they are about on par. Someone more versed in Luepys can help you better with that.

I've got two of the Grand Slam 1.5-5x32s.  They are fine scopes.

Thanks Longhunter, I have a G.S. 1.5-5x32 on the way. Does it have good eye relief and do you think it is a full 5 power at the top end?

It has plenty of eye relief for both me and my wife.   I don't know about the top-end magnification, but I think it's good to at least 200 yards.

Eye relief does vary from person to person.  Some people are stock crawlers.  Others mount their scopes incorrectly, or hold their firearm's butt against their arm instead of in the proper shoulder "pocket".  These folks can get nailed by almost any scope.

Hope you like it!  It's the best scope I've found for woods hunting AND for home defense.

The Bushnell Banner comes close, but isn't the same quality.  If Burris made their 1.5-6x40 Signature Select a little lighter, it would be my top pick as a serious big game hunting scope for everything but very long range shooting.

Longhunter, thanks. I wear glasses which puts me a little closer to the scope so I like lots of eye relief. I like the low power variable scopes. I am putting scopes on alot of rifles. I bought both the Signature Select 1.5-6x40 and the Signature Select 1.75-5x32. The 1.5-6 is heavy at 16.5 ounces on my scale. The 1.75-5 is 12.5 ounces with more eye relief so I Like it more. It makes objects larger at 5 power than a Leupold 1.5-5 so I think it is a true 5 power not the 4.5 the Leupold is. I think 5 power makes things 300 yards away seem like they are 60 yards away.
