Got a friend asking about a VXI 3-9x50mm vs a Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10x50mm. Will be used on a BLR .325 WSM. Any input or other options in that price range? Got his mind set on a 50mm just to see if he'll like one.

This will be kind of interesting to follow, I don't have any experience with the vortex scopes so I don't know how it compares optically with the VXI.  If it were me I'd probably go with the leupold, because I have faith in their ability to with stand the recoil of a hard kicker like the .325wsm.  This is purely opinion, as I do not have first hand knowledge on any of the vortex scopes.

Hey,every bit of info or opinion helps. I didn't post any of my own but thought about recoil tolerence or lack of it to. THANKS for the reply.

I had a VXI on my 338 win for quite a while.  I held up well on the rifle, but optically it was not very good at all.  I've only owned 5 scopes a conquest, a primos, a ffII, a VXI, and a millet buck silver.  The VXI and the buck silver were both at the bottom of the list as far as clarity goes.

ckk,I've got to agree with ya on the VXI. The few I've looked through haven't impressed me at all.

I would say optically the Diamondback is better than the VX1, but to me it is not as good as a FFII.

Anyone found head/eye position to be critical on Diamondbacks?  helo18,I feel he oughta at least consider the FFII.

I think he should consider the FFII.  It is a step up from both in my opinion.

Here is a review I did on one of the Diamondbacks.  http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=11637

I can't vouch for it holding up because I didn't really test that part of it.  I can at least vouch for the toughness of my FFII.

I had a Dimondback, it had great glass & turrets but the ergonomics where horible, I've found the opposite to be true with the VX1

i test drove the 3x9 diamond back last year and i really liked it, it was better than my nikon buckmaster, but not as good as my monarch. the eye relief comes in at 3.3-3.5 so its ok. there free replacement warranty is nice, i really like vortex optics. i have thought of buying a viper for my 22-250.
