Looking at buying a vortex viper 6.5-20x50 AP scope to put on my 22 250 to shoot ground hogs at 200 to 300 yards. Is this a good choice or is there better scopes for this shooting in the 600 to 700 dollar price range? Any feedback would be appreciated,Thanks.

The viper is a fine scope and will work well for what you said you want to do with it.  You could also look at the Minox line as they will have slightly better glass in them than the viper.

+1 on what SVT said, i think the vortex viper you mentioned would be a good choice and it has a great reputation. I have been happy my current vortex viper and i plan on buying the same scope you mentioned for ground hogging and paper punching on my next rifle. As far as the minox there is one on sample list for $359  http://www.samplelist.com/Minox-3-15x42-ZA5-Rifle-Scope-DEMO-B-P55395.aspx

The scopes RotoReuter mentioned would get the job done but they definitively wouldnt be my first choice for a dedicated 200-300 yds ground hog gun (YMMV).

Guess I don't see the point in 20x for that distance. But that's my opinion.

I like less magnification for general hunting, but for a dedicated varmint rig, I wouldn't mind the extra x's.

I think the viper the OP has listed would be a very good choice, and it would leave a lot of room in the budget for other groundhog killin' necessities.

The Minox looks like a fine scope as well.

I think that scope is a perfect match for your varmint rifle! It is exactly what I would choose.
Post a pic of some varmint kills

If you want to really get convinced you can find the 6.5-20X44 for $279 in some places. I just bought 3 for myself.
