How are those Vortex Viper PST FFP scopes holding up?

I am needing a new scope for a bean field gun shooting out to 700 yds and I thought that the PST FFP would be a good one.

But I was wondering if they were living up to promises after they had to redo the first batches?

Thanks!

What specifically happened?  if it were Leupold there'd be a major "crap"storm being made of it.  I'm just curious, that's all.

had it been anyone there would be a major crap storm so to speak and there was one with vortex  They paid the price for it too.  if you want to know, take your gold ring underwear to google and search.

A friend of mine has a PST on a 308.  He has about 400 rounds through it with no issues at all.  He loves the glass.  I haven't had a chance to go play with it yet, so I can't comment, but I hear mostly good things about them.

FTR, i believe they were canted reticles. But that was first production run batches and have since been cleared up by all accounts.

yeah they did,  it was not handled very effeciently when the original release happened. So they did get their public lashing.  The fact that someone wants to play the red headed stepchild leupold always gets bad rep pisses me off to no end.  Leupold has done very little right until recent with the VXR line IMO.  People who praise them as the end all be all are just useless IMO as well.  Every company that does something like this ends up getting called for it no exceptions.

I hope to hell your not talking about me!  I have brand loyalty to few things.  Optics wise, SWFA's SS line is the only one I will stand here and defend.  I just know the agenda that was about to be played and didn't want to hear it.  Vortex has F-ed up recently with the PST, they took their licks, fixed it and are putting that episode behind them.  I didn't want a sob story about how everyone rides leupold for no reason coming from the gold ring undie crew.

TopBrass,  the thread has ventured way off.  ANYWAY!  The Viper PSTs are holding up fine now.  In the event you ever did have an issue you have argubly the industries best warranty.  Buy with confidence if you want one.

I was only being sarcastic G Wink....in fact i agree with everything you've said about Leupold. They've largely ignored the civilian market for years and overprice their crap (look at the CQBSS, HAMR, upcomming Mark 6). Anyone who knows optics will back this up as fact.

What leads you to conclude that the Mark 8 CQBSS, HAMR, and Mark 6 are "crap"?

Everything I have read about the Mark 8s say they are very impressive indeed.  I bet the Mark 6 will be the same.

It was meant to be in relation to the market prices of other optics....i should have worded my post better. Leupold is overpriced. It's certainly not crap, but i simply don't see the bang for your buck. There are better opitcs out there for lower prices in almost any area (low, high variable, tactical, hunting etc)

Why would i pay $1500 for a (HAMR) when there are new out of the box ACOG's which are combat proven and civilian proven in competition for less than a grand?

Look at the initial price points on the Mark 6 1-6's....$1900. Are you seriously going to spend $1900 on an optic that in no way will double up the SS 1-6x which will come in at or around a grand. Ilya and Jon A's comments have already been put out there on the production ready SS. I highly doubt the Mark 6 is going to double up the SS's offering if the past few years have any bearing on what's being put out there.

Leupold has largely ignored the civilian market over the past few years and been playing catchup. It's evident on these very boards from some very astute folks.

Man, ain't that the truth!  I asked a simple question, that's all, nothing meant by it.  For the record,I have no brand loyalty in regards to optics.  I own lots of different stuff, i.e. Swaro, Leupy, Bushnell elite, Weaver, Nikon, Kowa, and Zeiss.

Thanks SVT_Tactical!  All I really wanted to know is that Vortex was standing behind their product and taking care of business.  A lifetime warranty is no good without a good company behind it.  I believe you answered my question.  They have great products but I dont have a PST and the price is right.  I have two of their Vipers and have been very happy with them.  Just wanted a FFP with better long range ability in the glass.
