Agreed.

Viper and 4200 are quite similar.

I just bought the Viper 2-7 C3 and there were some things that impressed me about the scope and some things that dissappointed me.

Good:
- adjustment turrets were great: Low profile to save space, yet they were big enough to easily finger adjust. They were very crisp with 12 clicks per revolution. 110 clicks of adjustment in both windage and elevation. I checked this last night, not going by specs here. I feel very confident in these adjustments.

- Glass was good as far as I could tell. Sadly I own no good scopes to compare it to :-(

- View mag bar is actually a really nice feature and the power ring is indeed silky smooth!

The bad: Not sure if my reticle is different because of the C3, but I found it to be a washed out brownish color. I fear it disappearing on white tails late at night.

The ugly: The "Pull up" reset turrets gave the scope a cheap feel. I expected them to be a mechanical click up and move then click down and lock into the adjustment turret. It was more like pull up on this cap that is attached by a rubber band and drop it back on the turret. Functionally it worked very well, but it made the scope feel cheaper than it is really is.

With the big discounts going for the Vortex Vipers you are getting the best bang for the buck in the scope industry.

In comparing it to my Elite 6500,I feel it's close but the Bushy wins out glass wise.Mech they are about the same.

When compared to my Conquest, just not there.the Zeiss glass is a level above.

My SWFA 10X HD eats it for breakfast & my Swaro Z5 proves that most of the times you get what you pay for.

This is just my own opion, please take it with a grain of salt.I do own a Viper 6.5-20x50 MD & think it's a great scope, again you get what you pay for.

You can never go wrong with a Viper & if you feel you are not happy with the scope call Vortex,I'm shure they will try to help you, they have about the best CS in the industry!

I am far from being an optics expert, so take this for what it's worth....

I mounted the 4-12x40 Viper on a new Vanguard 7mm Rem Mag that I took the range on Saturday.  I absolutely loved it.  I also brought with me a new Minox ZA-3 3-9x40 that I mounted on a M70 270 WIN.  Both scopes have standard plex reticles.  I liked the Viper more than the ZA-3 by quite a bit.  Saturday was my first time using a Viper and I really liked it a lot.  At the current discounted price I believe they are a tremendous buy.
