I've been under a rock for the past few years and just came across Vortex's R/T binoculars.  I understand they have Viper and Viper HD models, but curious what opinions others have on them.

While the utility of a MRAD reticle in binos is debatable, as opposed to a spotting scope , I can see merits when a range finder or MRAD scope isn't handy.

Ended up finding a used one floating around and hope to have it next week.  It is their HD 10x50 R/T model.

The 10X power range is going to take some getting used to and anticipate I'll be investing in a monopod/tripod to keep them steady.  Put a Vortex doubler on it and turn it in to a poor man's field spotting scope.

Got these in and ended up being the non-HD model.

I need to work with these some more but overall they are decent binoculars.  I have a Walmart purchased Bushnell and Nikon and the Viper's are slightly better than these.

Would have preferred they be 8x42s instead of 10x50s.  Always had troubles stabilizing 10x50s for extended viewing but will work fine with my tripod.

The ranging and targeting reticle is nice to have.  It isn't obtrusive but very functional.

Overall these are good budget binoculars if they can be had below $400.  The R/T reticle is a nice feature as a backup to a rangefinder or scope.
