So, a rehash to being us up to today:
I bought the scope about a month ago for a turkey hunt in South Texas. The hunt went well, the optic died. First problem: the power button is on the left side of the optic and is a push-button variant rather than a rheostat. I like the concept (it comes back on at the same setting when last turned off) but the implementation was not ideal - it was easily bumped on. Second problem: the auto shut-off is a great feature, especially considering the scope's propensity to turn on when the button is accidentally pushed; however, my particular scope had the bad habit of not coming back on once the auto shut-off had turned the optic off. To get the scope to work again, I had to pull the battery and put it back in. First Positive: I dealt with Brian at Vortex and he was very helpful,, sent me a pre-paid UPS label and said he'd figure it out. I am pleased with the Customer Service. Second positive: I got the replacement scope, it has a bumper to protect the power button and it seems to work well. Additionally, the power button now has a better feel to it, an actual switch you can feel rather than a button with no feed-back. Third problem: while mounting the scope today, the nut sheered the cross-bolt on the ring base. I checked the paperwork for torque specs, none there, so I assumed - and I guess I assumed wrong. With the new scope - which, Brian says, has newer electronics - I've had no problems with the power coming on after an auto shut-off and I've had no issues with the electronics not working. The new scope seems better in all ways thus far. I cannot recommend the Strike Fire at this time. The dot looks good, the controls are pretty good, but problems plague the thing. If you are willing to mess with a few glitches, the price is great. Don't mount it on a defense or duty gun till it is well proven, and mine has yet to stay going long enough for me to prove anything but that it is a decent hunting optic - when it works. The ring that died real quick: [I edited the post to take some ambiguity out of certain statements. I will try to proof my posts before I make them public. That does leave something to be desired. Sorry to hear about that.

Actually, for the money, I am still willing to put in a little time and effort. I hate the bolt-on rings anyway, it wouldn'a been replaced by a LaRue in time, now it will be replaced by a LaRue NOW.
I'm a Marine, I gotta be able to get to my iron sites, especially on a red dot that sometimes has no red dot. For now, my real-world weapon has an Aimpoint, and it will not be coming off any time soon. |
