Hey I was wondering has anyone used one of the Vortex Solo R/T preferably the 8x36 model in hunting situations? If so how did it perform, and was it a decently cheap alternative to laser range finder?

I have been looking at getting one of the regular solos in 8x36, but now I'm interested in the tactical ones with the mil dot reticle. The only thing I don't like about the R/T version is the eye cup, I'm not sure if this will interfere with me since I wear glasses. I know you can fold it back but I do like the regular Solos since it has a twist cup for eye relief.

I have the 8x25 and use it a lot while kayaking. It's great.
I had to choose a less powerful model because the movement of the kayak makes it tough to keep a more powerful one steady. If you're laying up trying to spot game you could certainly handle a higher magnification.
I think they're durable, and mine has been under salt water and rinsed many times with no seal problems.

I recently acquired the Solo R/T. I haven't tried to use it as a rangefinder yet. There is a little math required. I think that after bit of practice, it shouldn't be difficult to estimate range.

The eyecup folds down for eyeglass wearers. I wear glasses and it's not a problem. The optics are very nice and it looks to be very well made. One thing I should mention. It is fairly large, about the size of half an 8X36 binocular.

I have a question. Where was it made? There is nothing anywhere on it that indicates the country of origin. The manual doesn't even say where it was printed. The plastic bags that it was wrapped in are printed in English and German.
