Has anyone done a side by side comparison of these two in either the 8x42 or 10x42 range?  I've heard good things about both.  I wouldn't mind spending a little extra for the Razors, but would want to know why I'm doing it.

Are the Razors significantly brighter or clearer?  More rugged?

Thanks,

Ben

The local sporting goods store has both models in 8x and 10x. I think that it is not honest to examine binoculars in a store and to buy them on-line, but i was not planning to buy any of them (unless Swarovski comes up with a significantly improved EL line i will no buy any binoculars for a very loooong time). So, i asked to compare the Viper and the Razor. I even had my own EL 8x32 with me that afternoon, so i took it out and i looked at the optic chart with all three.

None of the Vortex were quite as bright and sharp and relaxing to look through as the Swarovski.

The Razor is quite a bit larger than the Viper. It also has less color fringing and wider field of view. It also exhibited slightly warmer colors, like the older Swarovski SLC line.

The Viper had a bit more color fringing but it seemed that colors were a bit more accurately represented. It is also a smaller binocular, and it has a narrower field of view.

I would not say that the Razors are significantly brighter or clearer. I think that for hunting/shooting they are equally good.

I would order both and i would return the one that i liked the least. They are both a very good value in optics.

Those would be the two Vortex to look at. The ones below that price are nothing special.
