I was wondering if the extra price of the razor 16-48x65 is worth it over the viper 15-45x65?  Haven't seen many reviews on the razor 16-48x65….

I'm no expert as far as the inner workings of most optics but I do have a pretty good opinion of what I have seen and what I like. I own the 20-60 x 85 razor and it was a very hard decision to make as far as turning loose of the extra cabbage necessary to get to that level versus the viper line.

Quite frankly other than the nightforce optics that are on my hog riggs it's not very often that I turn loose of the additional monies necessary to step up to the level of the razor in Vortex's line or whatever the top tier in other manufactures offerings are where actual riflescopes are involved.

This is simply due to the fact that from high-end to ultrahigh end I personally can't justify the difference that spending the extra dollars would offer in actual performance.

This being said I hope that you can agree that there is quite a difference between already having a target acquired and spending an extended amount of time trying to do so over a long distance.

Offering in the only terms that I am able Layman, long hours of glassing in order to locate or identify a target is a completely different task than already having done so and making ready for shot placement.

This considered it's one of the few times that I do condone spending as much money as your budget would allow while shopping for an optic to be used in this manner. But two if the main objective is to be able to identify shot placement on paper targets downrange with limited extended use this would signify a different application altogether and would be IMHO served well with the lesser expensive optics.

Good luck with your quest and sorry that I did not answer your question directly. But the old rule of "you get what you pay for" does come into play with the Vortex line although most every optic they offer is quite a bargain for what they ask.

Sorry I missed this thread.

I see a very large difference in performance between the Razor 65HD and the Viper HD65.

The Razor 65HD is tight behind the big Euro 65s.

The Razor HD MODS ARE ONLY BEHIND OTHER BRAND OFFERINGS IN WHAT THEY ARE ASKING YOU TO PAY FOR THEIR PRODUCTS. This has been proven review after review time and again. Even considered superior by many. Fact is where they give the others gain and where the others give the vortex gain absolutely no clear winner one to the other in performance. But a clear value offered dollars spent for benefits gained.
