Had an older gent come over to me for help on the range yesterday, said he thought he was having glasses problems and needed help zeroing his rifle. He had a newer M70 in 375H/H with a Vortex hunting scope on top of it. The guy said he didn't understand but somehow the sight picture went from being round to being eliptical. Having more than a bit of experience with the VN era ART/TEL I had a sneaking suspicion before even looking through the scope, loose lense. Once I looked I could see that was exactly the problem though I thought this kind of quality issue was remedied in the 1980'sWhacko. Hope Vortex helps the guy out, he wasted a bunch of factory ammo...

I Bought a 2-7 viper shortly after pyro, and no problems with mine either. I have exactly NO doubt Vortex will help the guy out.

As Old soldier stated, it should not have happened.  I have heard numerous people rant and rave about the warranty service by Vortex.  Bottom line here is the gentlemen will be without a scope while it is being repaired under warranty.  I recently purchased a old time high end optic as I bought the quality, not the warranty.  A good labor force costs X dollars. Quality raw products cost Y dollars(Advertising, profit and a few other things here).  Quality tools cost Z dollars.  If company A is selling an APPARENT equal quality product to company B at a much cheaper price then what area did company A cut corners?  You will NOT stay in business for any time when selling price is less than total production costs.  In optics you will get what you pay for.
Not all people can afford high end optics.  Save for the good stuff or buy something that fits your wallet.

i hate to break it to you, but ALL mechanical devices regardless of who made them are subject to failure..... some times whatever breaks is out of the manufacturers control. we dont know the whole story about this scope, its a story without all the facts being given to us. i for one am a firm believer in vortex optics, ive had nothing but good luck with them.
here is a thread that is noteworthy........
http://www.opticstalk.com/warranties-compared-for-scope-manufacturers_topic25457_page1.html?KW=westofpecos

i would also add that this isnt gospel, just good information....

I bought a $2400 pair of Leica Binos.  Guess what, they had a chipped lens in the eye piece, I had to send it back for repair.  I have sent back several IOR scopes because they had issues.  I have sent back a couple Bushnell scopes, and a few other brands.  It happens to them all.

As Pryo said they can all have issues, it does not matter how much money you spend.  Spend some time on the forums, you will see people have sent back Premier, Hensoldts, Swaros, you name it they have broken.  If you honestly believe that just because you pay more means it will never had an issue, you have just not bought enough expensive optics yet.

My son removed the eye piece from his Vortex binos and he then managed to badly cross thread it trying to put it back on.

Called Vortex - told them our fault.  They said send them in and we had them back very quickly and fully repaired.

Only cost shipping to.  They paid return.

I for one will stick with the best I can afford to buy.  Optics in particular more than subscribes to the " You get what you pay for".   I look at how long a enterprise has been in business and research to a fault.  I enjoy a variety of forums but I do not live on them.   Like I said, Vortex has a loyal following and it appears much of the following is due to the warranty.  If that product floats your boat, go for it. I was really surprised to find out that things need repair.

Vortex makes a good product it is not just the warranty.

You have never had anything that needed repairs?

plus, tell me any other optics company out there who would replace something that broke because you were an idiot one time in the field?? i dont know how many stories ive heard about guys breaking a scope or pair of binos and they called vortex in middleton wisconsin and told them straight up i messed up, and vortex replaced the product free of charge. sometimes taking care of the customer in this manner is priceless
