Just want to know how the vortex compare to the nikons. I know they are about $60.00 cheaper

Funny, I was getting ready to post an indenticle thread.  I'd really like to know the answer to this question also as I'm in the market and these two are right in my price range, with the Nikon's being on the upper end.

I went with the Nikons as i felt they were brighter (to my eyes) they are also lighter and i am going to use them in Colorado for elk, so i dont want the extra weight. Believe me, every ounce matters up there.

I got my 8x42 Diamondbacks in today and WOW, I'm impressed. My father owns a pair of 8x42 Monarchs so I plan to do a side by side comparison in the next couple of weeks.  One of my box blinds sits over an ag field and the deer come from a very dark corner late in the evening about 200 yards away.  After that I will know if I made a wise choice or not.  But so far from watching birds and squirrels play across the backyard, I'm impressed.

We have a gun, knife and coin show going on here this weekend.  There is a Vortex dealer at the show.  I gave the guy my card and left with several Vortex binoculars.  One was the Diamondback 8x42.  I got it with the express reason of comparing it with my Monarch 8x42.  I really did not think that the Diamondback would turn out to be better than the Monarch, but I was wrong.  This Diamondback beat this Monarch in every detail.  There was really no doubt the Diamondback was a better glass.  I think that part of this can be traced to the FOV.  While I have no problems with the size of a 330' 8X FOV, there is something to be said for a wider FOV being more relaxing than a narrow one.  What I noticed as the main difference between the two binoculars was this.  Use a binocular quite intensely for several minutes and then command your eyes to relax.  It will be illuminating to find out how much you might have been squinting or frowning into the binocular.  My eyes were far less tense behind trhe Diamondback.  I don't know how much was sue to FOV or how much was due to optics or how much was due to the Diamondback just being a better fit for my eyes.  I'd trade my Monarch on a Diamondback real quick.
