I'm looking at these two right now for a new pair of hunting binoculars.

Anyone have any experience with the two models directly meaning they have owned both or have used both and could let me know the differences?

For me, important features include:

  • Low light use (i.e. early am or late dusk) use high on list meaning which would be better at these low light times...and by how much better.
  • I want a good warranty...how does warranty compare between the two models
  • Coating durability (will it hold up well or wear noticeably over time?)
  • Waterproof comparison between the two as I could see being in rain quite a bit

I know they are about $200 apart but I would be willing to go as high as $499 on  a pair top end price.

Any other models that fit within this range I should look at?

I'm set on 8x42 for the size of the binoc's that I want.

You bought the better of the two binoculars.  I have both and the Viper is a step up from the Monarch.  The Viper works , for my eyes at least 10 minutes earlier and later than the Monarch.  Also my Viper is better at distance resolution than the Monarch.  Mine is a sample of only one each, but that's what it is for me.
