The Vortex 6.5-20x50 Viper arrived friday whle I was at work. i got home and rushed to get in mounted on a savage LRPV 22-250 so I could go and play. The load is 32gr of varget adn 69gr MK's.
I finally got to the personal range at 8pm.I still had an hour of light to shoot with but not that much time so the twilight test is yet to come. From me usuing it as much as I have got to it seems to be a really good scope. It feels sturdy. The glass Is nice clear and sharp out to 500 on 15 power. So far i really like it.So thinks I'm not so happy with on the scope in the turret caps. They are built well but after 15 rounds they would back off and need to be screwed back down and I felt like I was going to strip them out if I got to crazy with them. The Mag ring in easy to hold with gloves and turns smooth and easy but it has alot of slack in it and dosn't feel tight like most do. This has not hurt and performance yet but still feels funny to me.I'm have more testing with it comming up and I'll post more then. Here is a few photos untill them.

The quik set turrets are nice. Just zeron in and lift up the turrets and move it to zero and then you can adjust and you need to.

The shot on the right is the first shot after bore sighting. The hole above is the first group of 4 shots.

This is the first 5 shot group at 100 yards.

They would loosen to the point of comming off after 15 shots or so. I put a good snug tighting to them also.

Wonder if a bit of teflon tape on the cap threads would do the trick?

Nice rig, Brandon, and good shooting!  Very promising results from just your first load!

I think she's a keeper!

Yeah I had not thought about the tape.I was thinking of shrinking the threads on the cap to make a snuger fit. So far so good. I have a 55gr berger load i'm going to try in a few days to see how ell they will fly.

Very nice! I have the same scope (with mil dot reticle) also mounted atop a Savage 22/250 (Model 11) and have been very impressed with the resolution and field of view. Great scope for under $500 (with the $50 rebate being offer the rest of the year)!

Nice shooting too!

Thanks celonc. the 12 is a heavy rifle and has no recoil what so ever and is a tack driver so far. I went with the wide plex. I really like the vortex so far.

This is a 20 shot group it 55gr v maxs. This load hit left a little compaired to the normal load of 69 gr smk's. Under the dot was a 69gr 20 shot group. as you can see i pulled a few. It is a 200 yard group. I didn't think it was to bad.

hey there. can you guys that have the vipers, or any vortex scope for that matter, comment on which reticles you have and which you think would be best for varmints. i'm looking at the 6.5-20-50. i was thinking the bdc but someone said the crosshair would be too thick in the middle for precise aiming. what about the wide plex? and would the dots of the mil-dot version cover a 1/2" black dot at 100m?
i would look through them myself, but where i'm at i don't have that luxury.

roo,
I went with the V-Plex Wide and love it. @ 100 yards a .22 cal bullet are not covered by the x. at 200yds+ the ret still has enought not to blend in with the target or back ground.I feel it is a good size for all around shooting varmit/target. I like this scope more and more everytime I use it.
