Well, after I was suggested to check out a vortex viper 2-7x32 for my slug gun. I got looking around and searched for some answers but was not able to find what I’m looking for.

I was looking to get the Nikon monarch gold 1.5-6x42. But after looking around, a 2-7 or 2-8 would do just fine.  I could spend up to $500 but less would be better. Out of the 4 which one has the best glass and best reticle for low light?  The viper has the thinnest crosshair which I think wouldn't work out but still open. Most of my hunts are in heavier wooded areas with some open fields that are open up to about 150yds or so.

Hope you guys are able to help me out.

moshn

I have a few Monarchs with the Nikoplex and they are indeed a bit thin for the darkest hunting conditions. The glass is very nice, though.
The Zeiss or the Leupold would be my choice. The heavy duplex 1.5-6 in the VX3.

Have you actually seen a Zeiss Conquest 2.5x8x32 with a #4 reticle available?  I would like one myself but cannot find one.  I have one with a Z-Plex (per email from Zeiss rep. a reticle switch is not available).  If it is available that's what I'd get hands down.

I have only used the Z-Plex myself. It looks to subtend similar to the #4. I don't see the dimensions on their web page.
Zeiss does have an interesting comparator that is worth checking out. http://www.zeiss.com/C12568CF00206298/ContainerTitel/ReticleSelector/$File/index.html

Zeiss, Nikon, Leo all good scopes, I believe this will come down to personal preferance, though personally I like the leupolds.

The 4200 would be great glass and illumination the Nikon will be so so - useable glass but with a reticle designed for shotgun slugs and in a power range at 5x that leaves it a 7.2mm exit eye pupil so its is maximum brightness in low light and useable at 5x in low light and the balistic reticle is only true at maximum power which is 5x but that is quite acceptable.

Vortex Viper is nice glass but hesitant to give the nod because it broke after a few rounds of 300 WSM.I would go with the Zeiss Conquest very clear optics and reliable.

thanks for all the help guys. keep them coming

i currently have a burris euro 1-4x24 on it right now. i love the wide view on the low power. i just need some thing to get me closer. last year i took a buck at about 150yds. this year i wanted to get something with the wide view and still be able to zoom in. so the bushnell is out. the 8x would be nice this year.
