If I do my part it has never let me down.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.

It is the same when you are stupid.

It was the new basketweave checkering and was a 308.

Basket weave was post 1964. Mine was a pre ‘64 and had real checkering.I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that wasn’t checkered like the one in the pic.l think that was probably refinished and the checkering was removed.

I can guarantee you that I was ALIVE on this EARTH and that gun had basketweave checkering in November 1964....LOOK IT UP....

I really love the old Win 88’s.
In fact, I have a pretty good collection going.
My wife purchased a post 64 in 308 for me our 1st Christmas together. It was an unfired example, with tags, but I couldn’t leave it that way.
Next came a 243, and 284.
When my son was born, I acquired another 308, and had it re barreled in 250-3000 for his 1st rifle.
I got another 308 and had it done in 6.5x284. I sold that one last year because my kids didn’t want to learn to reload.
Lastly, I bought my Dad a 308 which he loved dearly.
When he passed, my Son started using it.

Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away.

What I remember about the 88 was Winchester made a series of 22 rifles that looked like the 88. They had 2 grades, and they had a lever action that looked like the 88, and a semi auto that had the lines of the 88. I got a 190 for Christmas one year. If I remember, the higher grade semi was the 290, and I think the lever actions were the 180 and 280. The only difference I can remember between grades was the nicer grade had engraved stocks, and maybe nicer wood.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.
