I inherited a 4th generation family sporterized Winchester M1917 from my father with a Norman-Ford & Co "The Texan" 8X power scope.  There doesn't appear to be any other markings.  At its shortest length, it is 16-5/8" long and it expands out to about 17".  I can find no information on the internet about this brand of 8X power scope (though I did find limited info on the N-F & Co "The Texan" 2.5X and 4X).

Does one of our forum experts have any details about this scope?  I would like to know the date of manufacture, $ value (for insurance only... I don't want to sell it), hunting value, etc?

I am not sure how to attach a picture in these forum topic threads yet.  If I can figure it out I will post a picture or two or three if needed.

Any assistance is appreciated.  Thank you.

Mark

Old Rifle Scopes by Nick Stroebel has a small section on Norman-Ford scopes, but he doesn't have any information on the 8X.  He is showing 2.5X and 4X and the 6X, and that's all.  It appears that they were offered from 1953 to 1958.  It does not say whether they were imported, or whether they were built in Tyler, Texas where the company was from.

My copy of Old Rifle Scopes has a publication date of 2000.  He gives a value of $95-200 for the 6X.

Son of Ed,

Thanks for the reply and the data on the 6X.   I can probably guesstimate the 8X value off that, but if you have any suggestions to the value of an 8X, I would appreciate it.  Maybe $100-$250 based on condition?

I'll leave this discussion open to anyone who may have an 8X The Texan scope and know its value also.

I still cant figure out how to post a picture to this post.  The Insert Image button appears to need a URL link.  How do I post a picture from my computer files?

Thanks again.

Mark
